Our Functional Medicine Team
Julie Brooks, PA-C, IFMCP, MSHNFM
Functional Medicine Provider
Born and raised in Kentucky, Julie began her career as a PA at the University of Kentucky. Following several years in Georgia, she found her way to New Hampshire. After many years in primary care, she became disheartened with the direction medicine was going. The growing demand for patient volume, coupled with increased administrative work, no longer allowed for quality time with patients. The “pill for every ill” mentality had taken its toll, and she began to contemplate a career change.
Discovering Functional Medicine was the turning point for Julie. The patient-centered, root-cause approach reignited her love of medicine and desire to help people strive for true “wellness”, and not just the “absence of disease”. She went on to become an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Provider (IFMCP), and also obtained her master’s degree in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine (MSHNFM) from the University of Western States. She has completed extensive training in Obesity Medicine, is an accredited provider with the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners, and has advanced training in the use of Therapeutic Carbohydrate Reduction and the Ketogenic Diet.
Opening this clinic with her husband Ted is a culmination of years of hard work and extensive training, with a strong desire to promote vitality.
Ted Brooks, MD
Medical Director
After obtaining his MD degree from Wake Forest University in North Carolina and completing a 3-year residency in Maine, Ted joined a small family practice in southern New Hampshire, where he practiced for 37 years.
The early days are what Ted describes as “full-spectrum” Family Medicine, which included delivering babies, comprehensive out-patient medicine, as well as hospital work and minor surgery. Although very fulfilling, Ted understood that there were common conditions not well served by conventional medicine, which to him seemed to him overly “medication and protocol oriented”. For the last 5 years of his practice, Ted did extensive training in Functional Medicine, the study of treating root cause of disease rather than focusing on symptoms.
Metabolic Health & Wellness, in collaboration with his wife Julie, is an extension of that training, designed to empower people to understand the origin of their health issues, and through this understanding, harness the body’s amazing ability to heal.
In this practice, Ted’s primary role will be Medical Director, as well as working on program development. Don’t be surprised if you see him teaching one of our classes, or wearing an apron while doing a cooking demo!
